Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

In Nigeria, ethnicity plays a critical role in shaping political behavior, with ethnic groups often aligning themselves with political parties, candidates, and policies that they believe best represent their interests. In Kano Municipal LGA, Kano State, ethnic identity is a strong factor in voter behavior, influencing party affiliations, voter turnout, and electoral outcomes. This study will investigate how ethnicity affects voter behavior in Kano Municipal, examining how ethnic groups’ preferences, loyalties, and perceived interests influence their participation in the electoral process.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
